Itinerary:

1. El Calafate & Perito Moreno Glacier

Most people will arrive from the north in El Calafate. It’s just about an hour to the Perito Moreno glacier, there are plenty of busses going to the glacier. You will find some hiking treks with vista points starting from the parking lot. You may need to wait some hours for a massive ice block to crack into the water.
El Calafate itself is a nice little village with lots of coffee shops and restaurants. Be aware that banks and ATMs might not work on holidays!

2. El Chalten, Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre

El Chalten is the starting point to the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. You can make two world class day hikes to Cerro Torre and the Laguna de los Tres from where you have perfect views on Fitz Roy. In El Chalten you will find lots of bars, hostels and restaurants with argentinian red wine and asado grills.
Busses leave several times a day from El Calafate.

3. Puerto Natales

We stayed two days in Puerto Natales to rent our equipment, buy some food and to organize bus tickets for the Torres del Paine National Park.
There is a great half day boat trip into the fjords of the area which we can highly recommend. They stop at the end of the fjord with the possibility to hike to an vista point to see a glacier (takes around 15min). On the way you see lots of animals such as the andean condor.

4. Torres del Paine National Park

Torres del Paine National Park is the most famous trekking area in Patagonia. You can choose between several trekking routes. The 5-day ‘W’ trek is by far the most popular trek. Longer treks go around the whole mountains of Torres del Paine.

5. Montevideo

Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay, we spent a half day here because we arrived late from Buenos Aires. There is not much to see, so you better head to the beaches further east.

6. The beaches near La Paloma

La Paloma has beautiful, quiete beaches with a subtropical climate. Choose an accomodation close to the beach, there are plenty of things to do such as surfing, cycling, yoga classes and so on.
You can reach La Paloma by bus from Montevideo several times a day in about 2 hours.
If possible you can follow the beaches into the north and proceed with a Brazil Itinerary.

7. Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is a great place to get steaks or any kind of french and italian dishes. There are some famous places you should see like the tomb of Eva Perón at the Cementerio de la Recoleta, La Boca area or a tango show.
If possible you can proceed from Buenos Aires to Salta and up into the Andes, the Atacama Desert and further north to Bolivia and Peru.
