Itinerary:
1. Bologna
Bologna has tons of little tavernas and restaurants to try authentic local food, a medieval city centre and Europes biggest university. Beside that they also host a crooked tower like the famous one in Pisa.
We spent our time mainly with walking through the city centre, eating and hanging around on public places for some coffees.
2. Emilia-Romagna
We visited a small Parmesan Factory outside of Bologna which had no official guided tour but the owners had a little shop and explained everything about the cheese. They also tooked us into the room where they make the chesse and into the storage hall.
On the way to Bologna we stopped at a Balsamico vinegar producer and tried different aged vinegars.
3. Cinque Terre
The easiest way to visit the Cinque Terre is by train from La Spezia. It takes just 10 minutes to reach the first village and the train has several stops along the way.
We went there in March which is the off season since it can get very busy in the summer.
There is a very nice coastal trail from Riomaggiore to Monterosso al Mare from where you can take the train back to La Spezia. Walking time is 5h and you will find several lunch places in the villages.
