Description
After lots of research we put togehter this 3 Weeks in Brazil Itinerary with a focus on nature and beaches. We started in Rio de Janeiro and continued to the Iguazu Falls, the Pantanal, Bonito and the beaches north of Salvador de Bahia.
The itinerary turned out very well and we can recommend it to everybody who wants to enjoy the beautiful nature and landscapes of Brazil.

Itinerary:
1. Rio de Janeiro
Our trip started and ended in Rio so we had the opportunity to stay at Ipanema and Copacabana which are both great places. We visited the Maracana stadium where there was a soccer game of a smaller team. You just show up and buy tickets, as you can see it was very empty.
Beside the beaches you should of course visit the Corcovado hill which has the famous statue of Cristo Redentor on its top, the Sugar Loaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar), the botanical garden, the colorful steps of Escadaria Selarón as well as the Santa Teresa and Lapa neighborhoods.
2. Iguazu Falls
Iguazu has an argentinian and a brazilian side. Tours can be booked in every accomodation, most of the time they will drive with you to a point where Paraguay, Brasil and Argentina borders meet in a river and afterwards you go to one of the Iguazu treks. They lead you from vista point to vista point and can be easily done by foot.
Plan a stay of one or two days in the area to see everything.
Iguazu Falls would be a perfect connection further south to Uruguay and Patagonia.
3. Parque Estadual do Pantanal do Rio Negro
The park is accessible from Campo Grande and most tour companies will pick you up there. Inside the park you can go swimming in the river which actually contains lots of Piranha fishes but somehow that is not a problem. Further activities include safaris by boat, foot or car. It’s also a popular place for locals to go fishing.
It’s easy to connect to Corumbá from the park and maybe across Bolivia into the Andes and the Atacama Desert.
4. Bonito
Bonito is a eco-friendly village with a crystal clear river where you can float with the current and watch some amazing fishes. There are a lot of nature related activities in the area, caves and waterfalls. On a big hole you can see wild parrots.
5. Salvador de Bahia
Salvador has lots of african influences und portuguese style buildings. If you have time, a day in Salvador is a good choice. We had a guide who showed us the most important places and markets.
6. Imbasai
Imbasai is a small village north of the touristy Praia do Forte. It has a small lagoon behind the beach where you can do stand up paddling through mangroves and overall there are not many people there. You find wide empty beaches and from time to time a little beach bar. It’s simply perfect!
