Itinerary:

1. Reykjavik & The Golden Circle

We stayed in Reykjavik two nights at the start and one night at the end of the trip. During the day we just walked around town, drove the Golden Circle and stopped on the way to the airport at the Blue Lagoon.
If possible make sure to be here on a weekend so you can enjoy the nightlife. It’s quite special to be in a crowded bar where people are dancing at 3am while the sun is shining through the windows.

2. Snæfellsnes Peninsula

It takes a while to get to Snæfellsnes Peninsula but there are plenty of sights on the way. Iceland has uniform symbol indicating whether there is a vista point, birds to watch, a hot spring etc. So we just drove around and stopped wherever we thought it was fun.
We also hiked on a mountain in Grundarfjörður in the evening to see the sun set from the top.

3. Landmannalaugar & Vik

With a night stop somewhere between Grundarfjörður and the south coast we went to Vik where we had to nights in a nice hotel. We saw the big waterfalls like Skógafoss on the way and wanted to go to Landmannalaugar by ourselves. Unfortunately you need a 4wd to access from the south so we had to book an organized tour for the next day.
Landmannalaugar is a place you should not miss on your trip.

4. Höfn & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

One of the most popular sights on the south coast is the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where ice from the glaciers floats slowly through a lake towards the ocean and is then washed back to a black beach by the waves.
We hiked on the east side of the lagoon to the glacier which was pretty nice.
We also stayed in a little hut with glacier views near Höfn and the hot springs of Hoffell were also pretty close.
